Abstract
(Deutsch)
Abstract
(Englisch)
In today's society, digital platforms play an important role in initiating and maintaining friendships. This master's thesis is dedicated to investigating the use of the Bumble BFF app to establish friendships among young women in Austria. The aim of this study is to analyze the motives and needs of the users and to understand the communication processes within the app. In view of the increasing social isolation and the difficulties of making new friends in adulthood, Bumble BFF represents an innovative way of promoting social connections. The mixed-methods approach, consisting of ethnographic studies, online content analysis and qualitative interviews, allows for the collection of both quantitative and qualitative data. The results demonstrate that Bumble BFF plays a significant role in the establishment of new friendships and that digital communication tools are highly relevant for friendship formation. This study presents significant findings on the processes of initiating digital friendships.
