Abstract
(Deutsch)
Abstract

In response to the various macroeconomic crises that have occurred in recent years, car manufacturers have been forced to strategically reorient their business activities in order to boost economic growth. In particular, developments in the luxury vehicle sector in emerging markets such as Asia and the Middle East opened up a great opportunity for profitability given the high profit margins in this sector. However, in order for car manufacturers to successfully establish themselves in the luxury vehicle segment and consolidate their position, it is essential that consumers associate brands and products with luxury. In this context, Art Priming, according to Christian Mikunda, offers a valuable opportunity to strengthen the coherent associations between art and the automotive brand as well as the cars themselves in the consumers' perception. This can be achieved by integrating art into the design of physical touchpoints, thereby influencing the perception of the brand and products as luxury brands and products. A Case Study, comprising an analysis of selected physical touchpoints of automobile manufacturers and an expert interview, shows how automobile manufacturers use Art Priming in shop design to influence the perception of their brand and products as luxury brands and products. In addition, five Think-Aloud Protocols were used to analyze how consumers perceive the brand and products in the context of Art Priming in shop design. The results show that automobile manufacturers consciously use Art Priming to emphasize the luxury attributes and also draw attention to other associations, such as history or technological innovation, through a thematic reference to the brands and vehicles on display. In addition, it was shown that Priming effects could be observed in the perception of the test subjects, depending on the degree of recognizable connections between the art and the brand or car. The results of the study contribute to the existing state of research on the topic of Art Priming and offer practical implications for stakeholders in the automotive industry.
