Diese Masterarbeit untersucht die Resonanzen zwischen den Theorien von Erich Fromm und Alexander Kluge hinsichtlich der zentralen Rolle der Empathie. Fromms humanistische Psychologie, die Empathie als erlernbare Fähigkeit versteht, wird mit Kluges multimedialen Ansätzen verglichen, die die emotionale Komplexität des menschlichen Erlebens thematisieren. Beide Denker betonen, dass Empathie eine grundlegende Fähigkeit ist, die durch soziale und emotionale Einflüsse gefördert oder gehemmt werden kann. Die Untersuchung zeigt, dass Empathie nicht nur für zwischenmenschliche Beziehungen zentral ist, sondern auch in der medialen Darstellung eine transformative Kraft besitzt. Sie prägt individuelle und kollektive Entwicklungen und bietet der Gesellschaft und dem Individuum die Möglichkeit, Verantwortung zu übernehmen, um Empathie gezielt zu fördern und destruktive Entwicklungen zu verhindern. Empathie bildet die Grundlage für soziale Gerechtigkeit, Kooperation und Mitgefühl, Fähigkeiten, die aktiv gefördert werden müssen, um eine nachhaltige und menschliche Zukunft zu sichern.

This thesis delves into the connections between the theories of Erich Fromm and Alexander Kluge, with a particular focus on the pivotal role of empathy. Fromm’s humanistic psychology, which conceives of empathy as a skill that can be cultivated, is contrasted with Kluge’s multimedia approaches, which explore the emotional depth and complexity of human experience. Both thinkers underscore that empathy is an essential human capacity, influenced by social and emotional factors that can either nurture or stifle its growth. This study demonstrates that empathy is not only central to interpersonal relationships, but also possesses a transformative power in the realm of media representation. It drives individual and collective progress, offering both society and the individual a pathway to assume responsibility for fostering empathy and averting harmful developments. As the foundation for social justice, co-operation, and compassion, empathy is a quality that must be actively nurtured to secure a more sustainable and humane future.
