Abstract
(Deutsch)
Abstract
(Englisch)
In the context of financial compensation, it is of interest to ascertain the factors that influence salary differences, such as those observed between regions. In addition to the cost of living, the question of the area's livability also plays a role – a non-monetary incentive for which employees could potentially pay a price. The thesis examines the influence of the livability on salaries. The research field considers both economic and social aspects that are of relevance for companies and employees. In order to facilitate the analysis, a Livability Index for the United States is calculated in Python. This index measures the level of livability in counties of the United States based on seven categories, following the model of the American Institute AARP. The influence of the index on salaries at the company-level is analyzed for the period 2015-2019. The results show no significant influence of livability on salary, although influences become apparent when examining the individual categories. These findings suggest that a differentiated consideration of the complex field of livability can contribute valuable insights to research. Thus, the thesis provides new insights into the factors influencing compensation and creates starting points for future investigations.
