Die Agrar- und Ernährungssysteme auf der ganzen Welt stehen vor vielfältigen Herausforderungen, die Maßnahmen und Innovationen auf verschiedenen Ebenen erfordern. Die Städte der Welt wachsen und spielen eine entscheidende Rolle bei der Förderung der städtischen Nachhaltigkeit. Darüber hinaus sind zivilgesellschaftliche Akteure zunehmend daran beteiligt, Innovationen voranzutreiben und aktive Mitglieder der Nachhaltigkeitswende zu werden. In dieser Masterarbeit wird anhand von Experteninterviews und Dokumentenanalyse untersucht, wie solidarische Landwirtschaft (CSA) im städtischen und stadtnahen Kontext von Wien und Berlin zu urbanen Nachhaltigkeitstransformation beitragen kann. Die Forschung bettet das Konzept der solidarischen Landwirtschaft in die Multi-Level Perspective (MLP) ein und untersucht die Entwicklungen auf den drei Ebenen Niche, Regime und Landscape. Im Laufe der Arbeit wird solidarische Landwirtschaft als Nischeninnovation klassifiziert und untersucht, wie die drei Ebenen miteinander interagieren und möglicherweise den Ausbruch aus der Nische ermöglichen. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass es allgemeine Ziele gibt, um die Transformation zu mehr Nachhaltigkeit in beiden Städten voranzutreiben. Darüber hinaus machen Entwicklungen in der Landscape, wie der Klimawandel und das Umweltbewusstsein, die Notwendigkeit zu mehr Nachhaltigkeit deutlich und setzen das bestehende Regime unter Druck. Nischeninnovationen wie die solidarische Landwirtschaft sind jedoch auf die Nische beschränkt und erhalten derzeit nicht genügend Unterstützung, um einen Wandel im Agrar- und Ernährungssystem einzuleiten. Um Nachhaltigkeitstransformationen im Ernährungssystem zu erzielen, fordern solidarische Landwirtschaften politische Unterstützung in Form von Finanzierung und Bewusstseinsbildung in der Bevölkerung.

Agri-food systems around the world are facing several challenges that require action and innovation on different levels. The world’s cities are growing and have a crucial role in driving urban sustainability transitions. In addition, civil society actors are increasingly involved in driving innovation and becoming active members of sustainability transitions. This master’s thesis investigates how community-supported agriculture (CSA) in urban and peri-urban contexts of Vienna and Berlin can contribute to urban sustainability transitions by means of expert interviews and document analysis. The research embeds the community-supported agriculture concept in the multi-level perspective, exploring developments on the three levels niche, regime, and landscape. This thesis assesses community-supported agriculture as a niche innovation and explores how the three levels interact to potentially open a window of opportunity for CSAs to break out of the niche. The findings show that there are common goals to drive urban sustainability transitions in the regime. Furthermore, developments in the landscape, such as climate change and environmental awareness, make the necessity of sustainability transitions obvious and put pressure on the existing regime. However, niche innovations, such as community-supported agriculture are constrained within the niche and receive insufficient support to initiate change in the agri-food system. Demands from community-supported agriculture to enable a diffusion into the existing agri-food system include political support in terms of funding and raising awareness amongst the population.
