Abstract
(Deutsch)
Abstract
(Englisch)
The disintegration of the Greenland Ice Sheet highlights the existential risks of climate change and challenges the adequacy of traditional macroeconomic indices in capturing global welfare. This thesis evaluates longterm macroeconomic indicators, including the Genuine Progress Indicator, Social Progress Indicator, Environmental Performance Index, Legatum Prosperity Index, World Happiness Report, and the Index of Economic Sustainability, against the backdrop of the Greenland ice disintegration. By employing a mixed-methods approach and analyzing key datasets related to the ice sheet, this research aims to identify limitations in current indices and propose improvements to better measure longterm global welfare. The findings emphasize the need for an interdisciplinary approach that integrates climate science and macroeconomics to redefine global welfare metrics, with potential implications for policymak-ing and future research endeavors.
