In der vorliegenden Arbeit wird der Schnittpunkt von Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Corporate Environmental Responsibility (CER) und der Luftfahrtindustrie untersucht, wobei der Schwerpunkt auf Nachhaltigkeitsinitiativen und Herausforderungen eben dieser liegt. Die Ausarbeitung beginnt mit einer Untersuchung der historischen Entwicklung der Luftfahrt und befasst sich mit der Entstehung des kommerziellen Flugverkehrs und der Entwicklung von Billigfluggesellschaften. Darüber hinaus werden die jüngsten Entwicklungen und Herausforderungen im Luftfahrtsektor untersucht, darunter auch die Auswirkungen der COVID-19-Pandemie, Umweltbelange und die Rolle der Branche in der Weltwirtschaft. Besonderes Augenmerk wird der Technologie bei der Förderung von Nachhaltigkeitsbemühungen, die Zusammenarbeit mit der Politik und die Einbeziehung von Interessengruppen gewidmet. Durch eine umfassende Auswertung der Literatur, Fallstudien und Branchenberichten soll diese Arbeit einen Einblick geben, wie Fluggesellschaften die Komplexität von CSR und CER bewältigen und gleichzeitig ihre wirtschaftliche Lebensfähigkeit und Umweltverantwortung sicherstellen können. Durch die Untersuchung von Schlüsselkonzepten, neuen Trends und bewährten Praktiken trägt die Studie zum laufenden Diskurs über nachhaltige Entwicklung in der Luftfahrtbranche bei.

This thesis examines the intersection of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Corporate Environmental Responsibility (CER), and the aviation industry, focusing on sustainability initiatives and challenges. The study first explores the early beginnings of aviation. Then, it focuses on the emergence of commercial flights and the evolution of low-fare flights and airlines. After exploring the historical development of the aviation sector, the research will focus on recent challenges and developments, including the industry's role in the global economy, environmental concerns, and exceptional situations like the COVID-19 pandemic. Through a comprehensive review of literature, case studies, and industry reports, the research will delve into stakeholder engagement, advancing sustainability efforts, and the continuously growing role of technology. The research aims to provide insights into how the aviation industry can influence, adapt, and react to the complexities of CSR and CER while ensuring its economic viability and environmental stewardship. Particular attention will be paid to sustainability and greenwashing misconceptions. Traces of greenwashing within the companies will be detected by elaborating and discussing a methodological part with a qualitative analysis. The study contributes to the ongoing discourse on sustainable development in the aviation industry by examining key concepts, emerging trends, and best practices.
