Diese Arbeit untersucht Thomas von Aquins Theorie der trinitarischen Relationen und deren ontologische Implikationen. Ausgangspunkt ist die These, dass Thomas in seiner Trinitätslehre eine grundlegende Verschiebung des Gottesbildes vornimmt, indem er Relation nicht als akzidentielles, sondern als substanzielles Seinsmerkmal Gottes versteht. Dadurch vollzieht sich eine Annäherung an eine relationale Ontologie, die über klassische metaphysische Kategorien hinausweist. Zunächst werden die Voraussetzungen dieser Theorie erörtert, insbesondere die göttliche Simplicitas, die Einheit und Vielheit Gottes sowie die erkenntnistheoretischen Grenzen der Gotteserkenntnis. Anschließend wird Thomas’ zentrale These rekonstruiert, dass die innertrinitarischen Relationen subsistente Realitäten sind, die die göttlichen Personen konstituieren. Dies geschieht durch eine detaillierte Analyse der Quaestio 28 der Summa Theologiae. Die Arbeit diskutiert zudem die Wirkungsgeschichte der thomasischen Relationstheorie und ihre Relevanz für moderne ontologische Debatten. Während Wolfhart Pannenberg eine kritische Perspektive auf Thomas' einseitige Bestimmung der göttlichen Relation zur Welt entwickelt, interpretiert Peter Knauer dessen Ansatz als Ausgangspunkt für eine genuin relationale Ontologie. Abschließend werden die systematischen Chancen und Grenzen des thomasischen Modells beleuchtet. Die Arbeit zeigt, dass Thomas eine einzigartige Position zwischen klassischem Aristotelismus und modernen relationalen Ontologien einnimmt und eine alternative Metaphysik der Relation entwickelt, die bis heute für theologische und philosophische Diskussionen fruchtbar ist.

This work examines Thomas Aquinas' theory of Trinitarian relations and its ontological implications. The starting point is the thesis that Thomas makes a fundamental shift in the image of God in his doctrine of the Trinity by understanding relation not as an accidental, but as a substantial characteristic of God's being. This brings us closer to a relational ontology that goes beyond classical metaphysical categories. First, the presuppositions of this theory are discussed, in particular the divine simplicity, the unity and multiplicity of God as well as the epistemological limits of the knowledge of God. Subsequently, Thomas' central thesis is reconstructed that the intra-trinitarian relations are subsistent realities that constitute the divine persons. This is done through a detailed analysis of Quaestio 28 of the Summa Theologiae. The work also discusses the history of the impact of Thomas' theory of relations and its relevance for modern ontological debates. While Wolfhart Pannenberg develops a critical perspective on Thomas' one-sided definition of the divine relation to the world, Peter Knauer interprets his approach as the starting point for a genuinely relational ontology. Finally, the systematic opportunities and limitations of the Thomasian model are examined. The work shows that Thomas occupies a unique position between classical Aristotelianism and modern relational ontologies and develops an alternative metaphysics of relation that is still fruitful for theological and philosophical discussions today.
