Zwei Jahre nach der Veröffentlichung von Anglicanorum coetibus (2009) setzte der Heilige Stuhl die Interdikasterielle Kommission Anglicanae Traditiones ein. Die Kommission wurde speziell damit beauftragt, liturgische Texte, die das anglikanische liturgische Erbe verkörpern und mit der katholischen Lehre übereinstimmen, für den Gebrauch in der katholischen Kirche zusammenzustellen. Zu diesem Zweck verfasste die Kommission ein Ratio-Dokument mit zehn Punkten, die sie bei der Entwicklung von Divine Worship: The Missal (DW:TM) befolgen wollte.
Der erste Punkt der Ratio konzentriert sich auf den Messordo und legt acht Ziele fest, die der Kommission als besondere Ansatzpunkte dienen sollten. Während das erste Ziel eine Definition des anglikanischen liturgischen Erbes enthält, legen die übrigen Ziele einen Rahmen und ein Verfahren dar, mit dem die Kommission spezifische Elemente für die Aufnahme in den Messordo auswählen würde. Die Ratio stellt das Book of Common Prayer an die erste und die Anglican-Missal-Tradition an die zweite Stelle, wobei sie dem Book of Divine Worship (2003) eine vorrangige Stellung zuweist. Das Ergebnis sollte ein Messordo sein, der „in seinem Charakter, seinem Inhalt und seiner Struktur zugleich unverwechselbar und traditionell anglikanisch ist, während er gleichzeitig klar erkennbar ein Ausdruck des Römischen Ritus ist, sowohl in seinen modernen als auch in seinen traditionellen Formen“ (Ratio).
Im Bewusstsein dieser historischen Hintergründe habe ich in dieser Dissertation den Messordo des DW:TM anhand des von Anglicanae Traditiones entwickelten Ratio-Dokuments untersucht, insbesondere die Zielsetzungen, die eine Reihe von Kriterien für die Aufnahme und Verortung bestimmter Elemente enthalten. In dieser Studie werden zunächst (Kap. 2) die siebzehn Quellen des DW:TM analysiert. Für jede Quelle werden der historische Hintergrund, der politische Kontext und die theologischen Implikationen beschrieben und die Teile des Messordos aufgeführt, die aus ihr stammen. Der zweite Teil (Kap. 3 und 4) unterteilt den Messordo des DW:TM in spezifische Elemente und vergleicht dann die wichtigsten Quellen, um die Gründe für die Auswahl der Kommission auf der Grundlage der Ratio besser zu verstehen.

Two years after the publication of Anglicanorum coetibus (2009), the Holy See established the Interdicasterial Working Group Anglicanae Traditiones. The working group was specifically tasked with compiling liturgical texts embodying the Anglican liturgical patrimony conformable to Catholic doctrine for use in the Catholic Church. In order to do this the Commission drafted a Ratio document, stating ten points that they would follow to develop Divine Worship: The Missal (DW:TM).
The first point of the Ratio focuses in on the Order of Mass and sets out eight objectives that provided the working group with particular points for development. While the first objective offers a definition of Anglican liturgical patrimony, the remaining define and develop a framework and a process by which the Commission would determine specific elements for inclusion in the Order of Mass. The Ratio places the Book of Common Prayer Tradition in the first place and the Anglican Missal Tradition in the second place, specifying a primary position for the Book of Divine Worship (2003). The Ratio then sets out to compose an Order of Mass that is "at once distinctively and traditionally Anglican in character, content, and structure, while also being clearly recognizably an expression of the Roman Rite, in both its modern and traditional forms." Thus, understanding this important recent history, in this dissertation I have examined the Order of Mass of DW: TM through the Ratio document developed by Anglicanae Traditiones, especially the objectives that provide a set of criteria for the inclusion and location of specific elements. This study first (Ch. 2) analyzes the seventeen sources of DW:TM. Each source’s historical background, political context, and theological implications are described, while also listing out the parts of the Order of Mass coming from the particular source. The second part (Ch. 3 and 4) divides the Order of Mass of DW:TM into specific elements and then compares the main sources to more fully understand the rationale of the working group’s choice based on the Ratio.
