In dieser Arbeit werden historische und zeitgenössische Argumente zu den Armen, der Armut und dem Reichtum diskutiert sowie verknüpft, um – entsprechend der methodischen Herangehensweise der Praktischen Theologie – in der Zusammenschau der Diskurse inner- und außerhalb der Theologie zunächst ein möglichst akkurates Bild der Phänomene zu gewinnen und daran anschließend den kirchlich-theologischen Handlungsauftrag zugunsten der Armen zu fundieren. Konkretisierung findet dies in der Betrachtung der Situation in Wien hinsichtlich statistischer Daten und dem Handeln der römisch-katholischen Kirche vor Ort anhand der Caritas Wien.
Abstract

This thesis discusses and connects historical and contemporary arguments about the poor, poverty, and wealth in order to – in accordance with the methodological approach of Practical Theology – gain as accurate a picture as possible of the phenomena through a synthesis of discourses within and outside of theology, and subsequently to argue for the ecclesiastical-theological mandate to act on behalf of the poor. This is concretized by examining the situation in Vienna with regard to statistical data and the actions of the Roman Catholic Church on site, using Caritas Vienna as an example.
