Diese Arbeit untersucht den Einfluss der Arbeitsmarktknappheit auf die Aufnahmebereitschaft von Zuwanderern in Österreich anhand regionaler Daten aus vier Erhebungswellen des European Social Survey (2014–2023). Die Analyse erfolgt mittels gepoolter OLS-Regressionen mit regional geclusterten Standardfehlern. Die Ergebnisse deuten darauf hin, dass Einstellungen stärker von subjektiven Wahrnehmungen als von objektiven regionalen Arbeitsmarktindikatoren oder anderen makroökonomischen Merkmalen beeinflusst werden. Obwohl die Arbeitsmarktknappheit in einigen Spezifikationen statistisch signifikant ist, deutet ihre Richtung darauf hin, dass günstigere Arbeitsmarktbedingungen für Arbeitnehmer*innen mit einer schlechteren Einstellung gegenüber Zuwanderer*innen einhergehen. Dieses Ergebnis widerspricht der Hypothese der Studie.

This thesis investigates the effect of labor market tightness on the willingness to accept more immigrants in Austria, using regional-level data from four rounds of the European Social Survey (2014 - 2023). The analysis employs pooled ordinary least squares regressions with standard errors clustered at the regional level. The findings suggest that attitudes are more strongly influenced by subjective perceptions than by objective regional labor market indicators or other macroeconomic characteristics. While labor market tightness is statistically significant in some specifications, its direction suggests that more favorable labor market conditions for workers are associated with worse attitudes regarding immigrants, an outcome that contradicts the initial hypothesis of the study.
