Abstract
(Deutsch)
Trotz einzelner experimenteller Herausforderungen (u. a.

The unique electronic and optical properties observed or expected from a plethora of two dimensional materials have been the focus of intensive research in material science over the last two decades. Among these materials, transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs) take the lead by more than one reason. Not only their unique electronic, optical properties but also their catalytic properties make them useful in a wide range of applications, including flexible electronics, energy conversion, advanced sensors, and biomedical technologies. This Master Thesis focuses on the study of ReSe2 and WS2 tubular heterostructures, which can be bound to each other by van der Waals attraction and can be combined to form tubular heterostructures (WS2@ReSe2). These tubules do not mimic the properties of their 2D counterparts. Therefore, working with these new materials represents the development of new material properties that are not present in the individual layers. During my MSc work, I have aimed at investigating the optical and electronic properties of WS2@ReSe2 heterostructures, where WS2 forms the inner nanotube and is wrapped by a ReSe2 outer nanotube, creating a heterostructure. By combination of solid state spectroscopy techniques, I have consolidated a number of experimental results that provide information on relation and differences in the the structural characteristics of the TMDCs in question (WS2 and ReSe2) and their tubular heterostructures. It is important to mention that WS2@ReSe2 are relatively unexplored because we have used samples that have only recently been materialized. To characterize these nanotubes, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energydispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) were used to study their overall morphology and elemental composition, while Raman and photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy were used to analyze their vibrational and optical properties. SEM images revealed rod-like nanotubes together with bulk and flake-like material, while EDS confirmed the presence of W, Re, S, and Se, consistent with the expected WS2 and ReSe2 composition. With Raman spectroscopy, we were able to observe the main vibrational modes of both WS2 and ReSe2 and compared them in mono-layered as well as bulk materials. These results were further compared with data available in the literature, and some small shifts could be identified and assigned to factors such as interlayer coupling and the curved geometry of the nanotubes. The PL results, showed emission peaks which differ significantly from the expected values for layered WS2@ReSe2 heterostructures (around 615 nm). Despite a number of experimental challenges, the results here presented confirm the main elements and the vibrational features expected. Note that the spectroscopy part of these studies cannot be totally conclusive, since we need to continue working on the sample homogeneity. All in all, this study serves as a solid starting point for future research of WS2@ReSe2.
