Abstract
(Deutsch)
Abstract
(Englisch)
The aim of this thesis is to determine whether mathematical knowledge is more objective than any other kind of knowledge. First, I provide an extensive introduction into various conceptions of objectivity in science throughout history. These conceptions are going to be tied to contemporary notions of objectivity in science and further, social epistemology. In light of the historical context and contemporary developments, I provide a taxonomy of seven distinct kinds of objectivity that can be referred to. This will provide the necessary context and tools to turn to the main body of this thesis, where I investigate the usage of objectivity in philosophy of mathematics. The focus is going to be on feasible notions of objectivity rather than idealized accounts. Feasible accounts refer to those accounts that can be realistically applied in mathematical practice. Finally, I will answer the initial question for every kind of objectivity as well as provide further context on their connection to truth-value.
