Abstract
(Deutsch)
Abstract
(Englisch)
This thesis studies continuous-time martingale optimal transport and the distinguished role of Bass martingales, also known as standard stretched Brownian motion. After introducing the necessary background on optimal transport and martingale transport plans, the thesis reviews the martingale Benamou-Brenier problem and its relation to Bass martingales, duality theory and model-independent pricing in mathematical finance. The main contributions concern the Bass functional and its minimizer, which characterizes the Bass measure of the optimal Bass martingale. Several new structural properties of the minimizer are established, including rotational invariance properties and results concerning its copula structure. Moreover, the minimizer is constructed explicitly in the case of Gaussian marginals, and the theory is illustrated through numerical simulations. The final part of the thesis studies convexity properties of the Bass functional. In particular, a counterexample is constructed showing that the Bass functional fails to be displacement convex in dimension d>1. This contrasts with the one-dimensional case, where displacement convexity was previously established, and resolves an open question posed in earlier work.
