Musik bildet ein zentrales Medium, in dem Sprache, Identität und kulturelle Zugehörigkeit verhandelt werden. Dies gilt besonders für urbane lateinamerikanische Musik, die heutzutage weit über den spanischsprachigen Markt hinaus verbreitet ist. Der puerto-ricanische Künstler Bad Bunny hat sich dabei als einer der weltweit meistgehörten Interpreten etabliert, ohne seine Aussprache zu neutralisieren oder auf lokale Referenzen zu verzichten. Am Beispiel von Bad Bunnys Album DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS (2025), das als Hommage an Puerto Rico konzipiert ist, untersucht diese Masterarbeit die Rolle diatopischer Merkmale des Spanischen in einem global rezipierten Musikprodukt Theoretisch verortet sich die Arbeit in der Variations- und Perzeptionslinguistik. Methodisch wurden zehn Lieder des Albums auf phonetisch-phonologischer, morphosyntaktischer und lexikalischer Ebene analysiert, wobei die phonetische Untersuchung mithilfe des Programms Praat durchgeführt wurde. Ergänzend wurde ein Vergleichskorpus aus dem Album Un verano sin ti (2022) herangezogen, um mögliche sprachliche Intensivierungen im Zusammenhang mit der thematischen Hinwendung zu Puerto Rico zu erfassen. Ebenso wurde eine Perzeptionsumfrage mit 100 spanischsprachigen Teilnehmenden aus 15 Ländern durchgeführt. Die Ergebnisse der Korpusanalyse zeigen, dass typische Merkmale des puerto-ricanischen Spanisch auf allen drei sprachlichen Ebenen präsent sind und in Abhängigkeit von der thematischen Ausrichtung variieren. Hinsichtlich der Umfrage erkannte ein Großteil der Befragten diese Merkmale, wobei phonetische Phänomene wie der Lambdazismus und die /s/-Elision besonders salient waren. Die Bewertungen zeigen eine Ambivalenz zwischen Authentizität und kultureller Zugehörigkeit einerseits sowie Informalität und geringerem Prestige andererseits. Dabei wird deutlich, dass die Wahrnehmung nicht allein von der akustischen Oberfläche abhängt, sondern auch von kulturellen und ideologischen Faktoren mitgestaltet wird. Insgesamt zeigt die Untersuchung, dass die Sprache in DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS ein zentrales Mittel der Identitätskonstruktion, kulturellen Positionierung und künstlerischen Differenzierung fungiert.

Music constitutes a central medium through which language, identity and cultural belonging are negotiated. Especially in urban Latin American music, which today circulates far beyond the Spanish-speaking market. In this context, the Puerto Rican artist Bad Bunny has established himself as one of the most listened-to artists worldwide, without neutralising his pronunciation or abandoning local cultural references. His album DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS (2025), considered a musical homage to Puerto Rico, therefore provides a particularly suitable point of departure for examining the role of linguistic variation in a global cultural product. This master’s thesis analyses which diatopic features of Spanish occur in the album, how they are perceived and evaluated by listeners from different backgrounds, and what function language performs in Bad Bunny‘s artistic production. The study is theoretically based on variationist linguistics and perceptual linguistics. Methodologically, ten songs from the album were analysed on the phonetic-phonological, morphosyntactic and lexical levels. The phonetic analysis was carried out using the software Praat. In addition, a comparative corpus from the album Un Verano sin ti (2022) was included in order to examine whether the thematic turn toward Puerto Rico is also reflected linguistically in an intensification of diatopic features. Furthermore, a survey was conducted with 100 Spanish-speaking participants from 15 countries. The results show that typical features of Puerto Rican Spanish are present on all three linguistic levels and are not distributed evenly across the album but vary according to the thematic orientation of the songs. A large proportion of the participants recognised these features in the survey, with phonetic phonological phenomena such as lambdacism and /s/ elision proving particularly salient. The evaluations reveal an ambivalence between authenticity and cultural belonging on the one hand, and informality and lower prestige on the other. The analysis thus shows that perception does not depend solely on the acoustic surface but is also shaped by cultural and ideological factors. Overall, the study demonstrates that language in DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS assumes a central function as a means of identity construction, cultural positioning and artistic differentiation, and that a local variety can circulate within a global music product without losing its characteristic features.
