In dieser Arbeit werden Teile neuer transnationaler Räume von expatriates in Wien betrachtet. Dabei wird das theoretische Konzept des Transnationalismus mit den Methoden und Ansätzen der Kultur- und Sozialanthropologie verknüpft.
Besondere Beachtung erhält die Organisation von virtuellen Netzwerken im Internet sowie deren lokalen Vernetzungsarbeiten in Wien. Durch diese Formen der Mediennutzung, der Kommunikation und Vernetzung, entstehen transnationale Verbindungen, die besonders den mobilen Lebensformen von expatriates entsprechen. Diese neuen, transnationalen Räume erleichtern es, den sozialen Anschluss auf lokaler Ebene zu organisieren.
Der Autor stellt verschiedene transnationale Räume vor, welche durch die mobilen Lebensformen von expatriates entstehen. Zum Beispiel die transnationalen Aspekte im Konzept der Diaspora, kosmopolitische Identitätskonstruktionen oder die transnationale Organisation von Unternehmen und Institutionen.
Diese Arbeit betont die Vielfalt von Lebensstilen, möglichen Netzwerken und sozialen Kontaktpunkten im Lebensumfeld von expatriates. Expatriates, als hochqualifizierte und privilegierte TransmigrantInnen, leben in komplexen, internationalen Beziehungsgeflechten und Identitätskonstruktionen.

This paper examines new transnational spaces of expatriates in Vienna, Austria. Combining the theoretical concept of transnationalism with methods and approaches of social anthropology, particular attention has been given to the role and structure of virtual networks on the Internet and local professional networks for expatriates working in Vienna. Using these forms of media, communication and networking, transnational connections are particularly relevant for the mobile lifestyles of expatriates.
In the area of online communities, combined expressions of both local social organization and transnational linkages are observed. The research also presents different transnational spaces which are produced by the mobile lifestyles of expatriates; for example, the transnational aspects within the concept of diaspora or the transnational organization of companies and institutions.
The paper emphasizes the diversity of lifestyles, social networks and linkages around the living environment of expatriates. Expatriates, as highly qualified and privileged “transmigrants”, live within complex international relationship networks and identity constructions.
