Abstract
(Deutsch)
Abstract
(Englisch)
With the death of the eternal president of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), Kim Il-sung, in 1994, the country began to engage in a nuclear armament – by the time the country did not possess any nuclear arms, nor did they intend to produce them. At least that is the official statement of North Korea. Based on this supposition and with the help of formerly secret documents, this diploma thesis examines the provided information as well as North Korea’s Defense and Nuclear Policy during the Kim Dynasty. The so called Sŏn'gun Doctrine (sŏn = first; gun = military) plays a significant role regarding this topic, as it has a great influence on the development of the DPRK and reveals the reasons for the country’s current path. Furthermore, the causes for North Korea’s isolationism & nuclear policy are picked out as a central theme. Therefore, not only the current situation of the country is reviewed, but also the history of the Korean peninsula – before its separation into North and South Korea after World War II – is taken under consideration. Because the abasement under the long-lasting suppression by the Japanese imperialists has left deep wounds in the minds of all Korean people until today.
